They don't look like they can handle too much force
2017-11-17 14:52:49
gloops
dont think they are intended for cutting machine use but they seem really solid
2017-11-17 14:53:05

deceiving, they are really heavy and sturdy
2017-11-17 14:53:13

alright :]
2017-11-17 14:53:49

2017-11-17 14:55:23
gloops
suppose could clamp the rail and put some force on the slider see what gives
2017-11-17 14:55:40
gloops
yeah could do
2017-11-17 14:55:49

yeah. Strain is one thing. I would just start by looking at linearity

bolt a lever on one see if there is any play
2017-11-17 14:56:10

2017-11-17 14:56:57
gloops
ill nip one up gently in the vice later and give it some lateral force
2017-11-17 14:57:00

Sure. just keep in mind that inaccuracy is stackable.

just wondered - Ichs said they were brilliant wondered if anyone else had seen them
2017-11-17 14:58:04

I've never seen thoes before. but the design pretty much dictates some sort of cover for thoes rails. They could clog up fast

monkeyisl
ahh step on time means positive duty? and step space means negative duty? lol in NS? or what
2017-11-17 16:33:15
archivist
with drivers there are minimum times else they can miss steps
2017-11-17 16:33:19
monkeyisl
datasheet says 2.5us on , 2.5 us off
2017-11-17 16:33:44
monkeyisl
2.5us+ on , 2.5us+ off
2017-11-17 16:33:53
pcw_home
No step on time means active time (whether is high or low depends in the drive)
2017-11-17 16:33:54
archivist
just make times larger for safety
2017-11-17 16:34:14
monkeyisl
ahh ok.
2017-11-17 16:34:18
monkeyisl
but what's unit?
2017-11-17 16:34:29
monkeyisl
35000 and no unit
2017-11-17 16:34:54
archivist
no unit would be a reportable bug
2017-11-17 16:35:05
archivist
ns though
2017-11-17 16:35:16
pcw_home
as a rule of thumb I would double the minimum times unless it interferes with the required maximum step rate on your hardware
2017-11-17 16:35:25
monkeyisl
got it..
2017-11-17 16:35:57
pcw_home
in LinuxCNC most small time units are in nanoseconds
2017-11-17 16:36:15
pcw_home
so 35000 ns = 35 us
2017-11-17 16:36:54

er?.. datasheet is saying 2.5us+ why he said 35us and and gone?

2017-11-17 16:39:46

(since these only come into play when near 0 velocity and the step rate is very low)

*MAAAAN* Why me all the time? just got a call from my wife... "can you come home early today? the (natural gas) warm water boiler is off... and the neighbor already tried an hour, he cant restart it... so i went home a bit early from work, straight to the cellar. pressed the safety walve of the boiler, pressed the piezo: no starter flame... AND NO SPARK? followed the hot wire from the piezo

to the pilot nozzle: AHEM, that dosent work so good with the electrode on the floor instead of the silicone holder right next to the pilot nozzle... So i put the wire back where it belongs, hold the safety agein, pushed the piezo: *FUB* there is the pilot flame... 21..22..23..24..25.. let go of the safety, main valve on "operate" ... FFFFFFUMMMMPPP there it goes... Great job, vaillant... next

So, getting a DRO for my mill. 4 Axis.. It has X Y Z as expected.. and K (assuming for Knee) but, it also has another to the right called W any thoughts as to why it would have 5 buttons and only 4 read outs ?

I was standing there marveling in my own genious for a few seconds, until it occured to me, that thoes train would just break the all surfaces it came into contact with instead, i.e. floor, wall, window, tables ect. so I discarted the idea

hmm.. well traction wise I would agree. But urethane rubber is more wear proof
2017-11-18 08:21:23
gloops
i might look at some way of doing that
2017-11-18 08:21:27
miss0r
silicone is very flexible. but it tends to rip under stress if theres even a small crack
2017-11-18 08:22:33
gloops
it would need to be pretty hard, planer blade hacking at the wood, with soft rubber it would just chuck the wood back at it
2017-11-18 08:22:52
gloops
i dunno though it might work
2017-11-18 08:23:11
miss0r
I was thinking medium density urethane rubber. but only a 1mm thick layer (to reduce flexibility)
2017-11-18 08:23:33
IchGucksLive
till later
2017-11-18 08:26:11

that idea of freezing the rubber is good though, maybe i could get a thicker layer on rough, and turn it down, would be a pain getting a precise thin layer on
2017-11-18 08:27:15
miss0r
I was thinking you could make a mold of aluminium, with a centering pin inside it. and just spray it with mold release. That would make a pretty precise layer
2017-11-18 08:27:32
miss0r
As I understand it, you can mix it to be very easy flowing
2017-11-18 08:28:25
miss0r
What is the application anyway? :)
2017-11-18 08:28:41

planer thicknesser
2017-11-18 08:29:13

hmm... So would it even matter if the rubber cast is off my a few 1/10 mm ?
2017-11-18 08:29:17
gloops
two roller take the wood through the planer, the rollers have some pretty strong springs pulling them into the wood
2017-11-18 08:29:52
gloops
it would matter for anything to do with the accuracy of the cutting, the rollers press the wood onto a machine table
2017-11-18 08:29:57

wouldnt matter
2017-11-18 08:30:04

2017-11-19 03:11:29
XXCoder
yeah im uncertain on what you mean by realtime jog
2017-11-19 03:11:49
MarcelineVQ
it's a wee bit broad, speed and transmission type vs power vs price and all that sort of jazz matters
2017-11-19 03:13:49
MarcelineVQ
mostly though you'll want to say what you mean by realtime jog. the motor shaft rpm? the actual movement of some setup you have in mind? the response-rate of a pendant? :>
2017-11-19 03:17:24
monkeyisl
reaponse rate is close to 0 i mean .

2017-11-19 03:21:31

sure keyboard works. keyboard keys have certain limitations in that if your OS stutters due to a HDD read or loaded cpu it's possible to get more key presses than you intended, or a button can be held longer than you thought. That's been my experience anyway
2017-11-19 03:22:55
MarcelineVQ
With the kernel you'd use with linuxcnc it's possible that situation is pretty reduced though, dunno
2017-11-19 03:23:28

2017-11-19 03:46:32

2017-11-19 03:47:20
XXCoder
older ps1 though works fine, it uses actual INT so it can be reacted to near-instant
2017-11-19 03:47:53
XXCoder
if you never used ps/2 keyboard, never disconnect or connect ps2 keyboard when computer is on, it can fry the port.
2017-11-19 03:48:01

if the estop is locked unless linuxcnc is ready you cannot have the drives run away
2017-11-19 15:52:04

Maybe I am overthinking it....but, when I power on the machine, estop is clear the drives are enabled. at this point anything can happen and lcnc wont be able to do anything because machine-is-on = false.

R2E4: assign an "always true" signal to one mesa output and use that to drive a relay which is wired in series in the AC contactor circuit, so that the contactor won't come on until LinuxCNC has actually initialized the outputs, including the analog signals to the servo drive; use a delay (HAL module or ladder logic) to be extra sure the analog lines are flat 0 at that point
2017-11-19 17:23:37
enleth
R2E4: make it separate from e-stop, obviously
2017-11-19 17:24:02

so that hitting e-stop won't overstress the servo drives each time by cutting their AC inputs

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvndFi6vdKI Anyone here got an idea where I could find a screw jack like this one in the video? He said it was from a camper or something in another video but I cannot seem to find anything like it online short of a trailer jack which is much shorter and whatnot...
2017-11-19 18:58:34
MarcelineVQ
yeah that's pretty dang big
2017-11-19 18:58:50

2017-11-19 18:59:32
BeachBumPete
I know that is what is nice about it. It apparently has the balls to bend the tube and the throw to push past a 90 in a single pass
2017-11-19 18:59:38
MarcelineVQ
campers have 4 of them to lift themoff the truck bed and they're usually a screwjack of some sort
2017-11-19 18:59:53

I just bought a similar bender to this and I am debating whether to use this or just a simple air/hydro ram

the latter is quite noisy

CaptHindsight
I ran into another closed source controls vendor at the mold show..
2017-11-20 01:54:26
CaptHindsight
they had Bridgeport retrofits for ~$35K complete

hazzy: sand conveyor out the tank
2017-11-20 01:58:06
hazzy
sync: Yes, we really need something like that, or just have a rule where each student who uses the jet had remove one shovel full of sand :)
2017-11-20 01:59:27
sync
that would also help
2017-11-20 02:00:13
sync
I think ours has a pump that runs when it is cutting and pumps the water through some filter cloth that runs in a loop
2017-11-20 02:00:27
sync
so it just dumps the used abrasive somewhere else while recycling the water
2017-11-20 02:00:29
CaptHindsight
turn it into an indoor beach party
2017-11-20 02:04:59
CaptHindsight
hazzy: what is the cutting area of the waterjet?
2017-11-20 02:05:52
CaptHindsight
I might build a multi-axis plasma cutter with some spare parts
2017-11-20 02:06:22
CaptHindsight
with a waterjet service so close I don't know if I'd bother making one
2017-11-20 02:06:32
hazzy
It is a 4' x 8' but one end is taken up by the air tank to use to raise the water level, so working area is only about 4' x 6'
2017-11-20 02:08:02
hazzy
Which is a pain because we cut a lot if 4x8 sheets for the sheet metal class, so we have to break them down with the shear first
2017-11-20 02:10:40
CaptHindsight
and you probably can't modify the tank since it's leased or something
2017-11-20 03:37:13
hazzy
CaptHindsight: No, we own the water jet, but for small parts it is very convenient being able to raise and lower the water level in a mater of seconds rather than minutes

CaptHindsight: ATC means spindle have something change tool with holder hold and release? or does it also require system to swap tools also?
2017-11-20 07:17:31
XXCoder
not too sure what range ATC covers
2017-11-20 07:18:56
CaptHindsight
a chuck that operates with air, hydraulics or solenoids qualifies
2017-11-20 07:19:24
CaptHindsight
an arm and tool carousel is icing on the cake
2017-11-20 07:19:31

my first go i just went by instinct, this will never bend, that is plenty strong enough, - but it did bend, i was pretty amazed 2.5 inch heavy pipe could bend from routing wood

flex is always there, it is just the amount that varies
